Fran Rowse is a Cornish photographer and curator. Working across photography, digital art, mixed media, and archival practice, her work centres on the overlooked lives and stories of women and girls in the South West of England. Rooted in lived experience as a former fisherwoman from a working-class background, her practice bridges rural communities and the art world through collaborative, socially engaged projects.
Her award winning debut Project ‘CORNISH MAIDS’ is an ongoing photography project that photographs women and girls in Cornwall. The photography project has gone on to become a movement in Cornwall, shaking up ideas of female Contemporary identity.
Frans Works demand recognition of women and female emotions, identity and history. Blending documentary and surreal approaches, grounded in the domestic, coastal, and rural landscapes she knows intimately.Alongside her independent practice, Fran has worked collaboratively with fashion brands, bringing a socially driven, narrative-led approach to commercial projects.
